TAMPIDARO

Technique: Acrylic on canvas

TAMPIDARO

Born in 1988 into a family of traditional dyers, Ibrahima Wone Bocoum, known as Tampidaro, grew up in Dakar in the Medina district. At a very young age, he developed a passion for drawing and painting, creating his first canvases from fabrics and natural dyes recovered from the family workshop. In 2004, he abandoned his studies and tried his hand at being a carpenter, a tailor, and even as a middle school supervisor.

In 2015, he decided that the time was right to take a leap of faith and become a full-time self-taught painter. He then joined the "Car Rapide" workshop to work with and under the supervision of the painter Saadio. There, he was able to perfect his techniques, develop his own contemporary style and gain a better understanding of all aspects of his profession. His bold choices marked the beginning of a succession of participation in various exhibitions in and around Dakar. Tampidaro is inspired by what he observes; he immerses himself in all kinds of images, photos, advertisements, modern and natural landscapes, and the popular and crowded neighborhoods of Dakar, to represent them in a chimerical form always integrating an avant-garde, surrealist and poetic touch.

He has participated in several group exhibitions, since 2016 and without interruption in the Dakar Women's Group Art show, the Dak'Art Off Biennial (2016, 2018 and in 2022 in his own Atelier Tampidaro in Mamelles - Dakar) and in the space Le Cube (Dakar, 2022). In solo exhibitions, his latest works were shown at Chez Lulu (Dakar, 2020) and at the Maison de Nadia (Dakar, 2022).
