Supporting local organizations

The Charity Committee manages resources allocated by the DWG Executive Committee for charitable activities targeting women and children in Senegal. As a non-profit, all funds raised directly benefit our charity projects.

We distribute essential funding to small community-based and grass-root projects focusing on education, women and children’s health, cultural development, entrepreneurship and raising awareness for a positive change. The funds are raised through various DWG social events such as the Christmas Bazaar, the DWG Fashion Show, the Gala, the Spring Bazaar, and the DWG Art Show.

Over the last five years, the Dakar Women’s Group has provided over 120 million FCFA to local charitable projects. In 2020, DWG supported 20 charities with more than 18 million CFA (27,000 €). Faced with the COVID- 19 pandemic, DWG distributed an additional 1,000,000 CFA in emergency support to community organizations to help meet the increasing needs of the vulnerable children and families they serve.

ASSOCIATION DE DÉVELOPPEMENT L’ENFANT D’ABORD
ThIS school opened in 2018 and offers a quality pre-school (60 kids) and school (50 kids in CI and elementary) for the very poor families who live in a remote location and would otherwise be unable to afford their children’s education. It is free of charge for 97% of the families and breakfast and snack are offered. In one year of existence the school has already made a huge impact on the surrounding area and has succeeded in enrolling mothers in the project.
In 2020, DWG funds were used to paint walls and ceilings of  3 classes, an office, and the outdoor area. They have chosen washable paint to improve the room’s conditions, making them more welcoming and keeping good hygiene.

ASTRE
Astre is a school of 102 students in a very poor area. The school was founded in 1998, answering a growing need to care for children from the ages of 2 to 15 in the community. These children were not going to school due to various factors and are now receiving a second chance because of the presence of Astre.

In 2020 the DWG grant enabled Astre to purchase second hand computers and to build a tent in the outdoor space to protect the students from the sun.
